FOCUS 2014 will take place on Jan. 16-19. This event brings over 100 minority undergraduate students to learn about GT graduate programs. We are looking for volunteers throughout the weekend. High School Mentor (SHPE Jr.)
Hi Everyone,
Below is an opportunity to lead an outreach/volunteer initiative through SHPE’s Jr. Chapter program. SHPE Jr. Chapters are high school chapters that engage hispanic students at the pre-college level (and their parents) in STEM and college preparation with the objective of motivating them to pursue a degree in STEM.
GT-SHPE currently supports chapters in two high schools in the Atlanta area. The executive board is looking for someone to fill the position of Mentor SHPE Leader that can help in spearheading the outreach initiative.
The Mentor SHPE Leader is responsible for:
- Partnering with SHPE Jr. Chapter Advisor and Representative to establish and sustain Jr. Chapter
- Assisting with Jr. Chapter membership recruitment
- Meeting with SHPE Chapter and Jr. Chapter for a minimum of four hours per month at the participating high school to deliver curriculum and provide tutoring/mentoring to SHPE Jr. Chapter members
- Attending SHPE Foundation webinars
- Provide information to SHPE Jr. Chapter Representative on activities and highlights for reporting

The University of Texas at Arlington (UT Arlington) invites applications and nominations for Provost Post-Doctoral Fellowships, in support of the university’s continuing commitment to advance scholars from underrepresented groups in higher education. The purpose of the fellowship is to develop and prepare scholars from underrepresented groups for future faculty positions in academia. The fellowships are for a two-year term beginning in August 2014.
